I never really get this in fic as a whole.  Why such long descriptions? Surely  the people reading it, er, have an idea of what person A looks like.

Yes. Generally, I find any description like that - in any form of literature - to be really, er I don’t know. I just don’t like a straightforward just paragraph detaling what they look like most of the time. Unless, of course, it’s important. If what they’re wearing is important, emphasize this by describing it to me. If not, I don’t know. I just dislike reading them. Especially in fanfiction because, like you’ve said, we probably already know what they look like.

Also eye twinkling. Eyes always twinkle in fanfiction. I don’t know why. I have never seen an eye twinkle. Ever.
